About This Campaign

Join the Matthew Shepard Foundation for a hate crime panel made of national and regional advocates and law enforcement specialists to learn more about South Florida hate crime statistics, reporting incidents, staying safe, and erasing hate in your own backyard. Judy & Dennis Shepard will be in attendance to discuss their story as well as a panel of other advocates, law enforcement, and government officials.

The state saw 102 documented hate crimes in 2015, up from 73 in 2014.  This is a marked decrease since a high of 306 were reported in 2002*. Please join us on November 9th to learn more about this systemic challenge.

Space is limited so RSVP today!

*Note:The Shepard-Byrd Hate Crime Prevention Act, enacted in 2009, allows for the prosecution of federal hate crimes.  Unfortunately, there is no mandate for reporting in the U.S. and Florida is a perfect example of how both victims (unwilling to come forward) and law enforcement (not mandated to report) skew the potential and likely hateful acts that have actually occurred
